Comedy Relief: These Amps Go To 11... Lego-style

Well, It's One Louder, Isn't It?

I finally watched the mock-u-mentary "This Is Spinal Tap" last night (it's free if you have Comcast on demand!); I play guitar and bass in a rock band with no name, and we sometimes joke about the Spinal Tap movie clip where they talk about their guitar amps that "go to 11".

I'm sure that there are some lessons in this clip, such as breaking paradigms, taking things 'over the top', etc. etc., but the reason why I found this particular YouTube clip so funny is that Bort McClinenburg (http://www.youtube.com/user/BortMcClinenburg) took the time to convert this movie clip to Lego animation. Not only is it amazing, but it actually makes the clip funnier than the original!

If you have never seen "This Is Spinal Tap", here is the original movie clip hosted on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMSV4OteqBE

Aside from any success lessons that you may find in the clip (or the entire movie), here are some points that I would like to point out:

1. Who is Bort McClinenburg? Does anyone know?

I spent a few minutes Googling the talented artist who created this Lego stop-motion animation video, and came up with absolutely zero. If you are passionate about your craft, and Bort McClinenburg obviously is (as you can see from the other videos in his YouTube video channel), then you should make it easy for people to find you online. It is amazing how one day, completely out of the blue, someone may contact you with an amazing job offer / consulting gig / etc. because they are impressed with your work.

2. No matter how silly you may think it is, if you are passionate about something, do a fantastic job and publicize.

Perhaps Bort is passionate about Legos, perhaps he is passionate about making movies, or perhaps he is passionate about Spinal Tap. Regardless of what it is, there is probably a fantastic opportunity out there for you... but you need to tell the world about your craft. If you are interested in stop-motion animation, create some videos, post them on YouTube, and tell the world. If you are interested in gardening, cooking, or car care, start writing how-to articles and post them on your blog. You DO have a blog, don't you?

Enjoy!
